Every year we hear about the spookiest Halloween celebrations across the country. But did you ever think about joining in Halloween fun in Hawaii? Rent a timeshare on Oahu, and add Halloween as another reason to head to the Islands.
The “Haunted Lagoon” is a very scary Halloween experience – right in the Polynesian Cultural Center. Who would have thought?
One of the top Hawaii attractions is the Polynesian Cultural Center (PCC), which features a 42-acre facility on the North Shore of Oahu. With its lush tropical flora, waterfalls, lagoon (oops, there’s that Lagoon again), and an “erupting” volcano, the Polynesian Cultural Center captures a lot of the beauty and excitement of the South Pacific rim. Here you’ll be able to visit the many diverse islands and cultures that make up Polynesia.
But every October there’s a twist. On specified days October 1 to 30 (note that it’s closed on Halloween), you’re taken on a canoe ride – right into the Haunted Lagoon. It’s a great way for the entire family to get into the Halloween, ah – spirit.
The story and theme of the ride revolve around the legend of the Lā‘ie Lady, the restless, vengeful spirit of a young woman who fell into insanity, and now wanders the lagoon seeking revenge for her murdered family.
“Today I found myself again – at the Lagoon. Its haunting waters call out to me…More canoes will come into the lagoon tonight, and I will wait in the shadows for them…”
Beginning its third Halloween season this year, the Haunted Lagoon has become Hawaii’s premier haunted attraction. Determined to top last year’s mega-success, the PCC has turned up the terror with new creatures and has revamped effects –offering even more thrills than ever before. Two versions of the ride are available.
Not for the faint of heart, a version only for very brave souls features a ghostly cast of over 100. If you happen to spot the eerie apparition of the Lā‘ie Lady, take care. It’s rumored that the unearthly figure in white is desperately searching for someone to keep her company for all eternity – and any guest will do.
The PCC also offers milder “keiki canoes” for children, and family members who prefer their shots of terror in smaller doses. Aboard each keiki canoe is a “lost warrior” who carries a mystical light staff that repels monsters and creatures, and even – hopefully – the Lā‘ie Lady.
Keikis will also be able to enjoy a feature film presentation, contests, and activities while waiting for the Haunted Lagoon Ride.
